Not so sticky sticky buns

There’s nothing like a bit of comfort food on a cold day, and when I saw theseΒ on Alice’s delicious blog, girl in a food frenzy, I was keen to make them.

They should, by rights, be sticky on top, but due to my impatience they didn’t get the icing they deserved and had to make do with melted butter sprinkled with brown sugar instead:

I’ve been missing my blog a little lately, but have been attempting to concentrate on writing my novel (coming along nicely, thanks for asking).

This Christmas malarky is also taking up considerable time and effort, and I’m looking forward to the new year when everything’s settled down and we’re heading into spring again.

Incidentally, for fellow bloggers, I’ve noticed over the past day or two that when I try to comment on other blogs my comments aren’t showing up the way they used to. I’m trying to get to the bottom of this, but if anyone has any bright ideas about how to fix it I’d be glad to hear them.

  1. They look plenty sticky and comforting to me, Lorna, and good for you for taking enough of a break from the writing and the malarky to bake them.
Glad to hear that your novel is coming along. In fact, I’m well chuffed to hear it.
All the best to you and your delightful companions this Christmas season.

    • Thank you Robin! I hope your writing is coming along well too, and all my very best to you and your family for Christmas. The best thing about taking breaks to bake is that I end up with something tasty to take back to my laptop, with a large hot beverage or two, naturally.

  2. We’ve missed you, Lorna! But you have important work to do. Glad the writing is going well. And glad you found time to bake, too :-)!

I had a similar WP commenting problem and it turned out I was commenting too much (!) and had been restricted as a possible spammer. Imagine!! I emailed the help desk and they fixed it up quickly. No more problems.

    • Aaw thank you Annie, I have to stop and bake sometimes, I find it therapeutic, not to mention having something to nosh on as a result.

I was very interested to read your comment about spamming and I think that’s what happened to me, going by Jo’s comment here. I contacted Askimet and somehow or other it appears to have been fixed, so hurrah!

  3. They look absolutely scrumptious for a cold day such as today. Been out planting tulips so wouldn’t mind one with a cuppa πŸ™‚

Have you ever made a lardy cake? – I’m keen.

Hope the novel is progressing well πŸ™‚ Oh, and I was just wondering, do you have an email alert option for replies?

    • Thank you, they slipped down nicely with a cuppa. I’ve never made a lardy cake although I’ve heard of it.

The problem I had seems to be fixed, and I think I had been struck off for commenting too much on other blogs! I used to have an email alert set up but I got so many emails that I changed my settings. Anyway, hopefully that’s it sorted now, but thanks for the suggestion.

  4. Mmm those look delicious! I haven’t had problems commenting (we’ll see how this one goes) BUT a fellow WP blogger contacted me by email to say her comments to my blog hadn’t been getting through. So…?

Glad to hear the novel is coming along just fine!

    • Thanks Christine, I left two comments on your blog about the clouds post, did you find them? They might be in your spam folder, as that seems to be what happened to Jo when I commented on her blog and my comment didn’t show up. I think it’s fixed now, I hope so…..

  5. Those buns look gorgeous, sticky or not! Glad your novel is coming on well, too. I noticed the other day when you commented on one of my posts that the comment got stuck in my spam filter and I had to ‘un-spam’ it. Strange!

    • Thank you Jo! That was a very useful bit of information about the spam. I think that’s what’s been happening – too many comments leading to me being deemed a spammer! Thanks for noticing that and telling me.

        • Well I’m not sure, when I contacted them they said they couldn’t see a problem and then it got fixed somehow, but taking your comment and Annie’s I thought the spam thing looked like what had happened. I was a bit surprised by the idea that I could be labelled as a spammer, especially as I’ve been commenting for nearly a year with no problems. Maybe it was something else, I really don’t know. Strange.

  6. Those “unsticky” buns look scrumptious. That’s the way I would enjoy them too…more dough, less sticky πŸ™‚
About your comments, yours have come through fine recently to my blog….and I haven’t figured out a lot of things about how to use WP…so am sorry to say, would be no help … am soooo happy for you that you are making progress on your novel. The holiday distractions can be a challenge, but also a little respite might be good for the soul πŸ™‚ I find it therapeutic to bake…and these buns might just be on my Christmas morning table.

    • Thank you Linda, I must say they tasted okay to me without the icing, although I’d have gladly had them either way.

It’s very strange, this comments thing. I noticed that I was able to leave one on your blog, and on one other blog, but not on several other blogs I tried to comment on.

I’d love to know if you make these buns, and I agree wholeheartedly with you about the therapeutic business of baking, it certainly makes a good break from writing.

  7. comfort food is so amazing. i like your sticky buns a lot. i was having a bit of trouble with commenting on wordpress but all is well now. hope it got sorted out for you. i always enjoy your comments. πŸ™‚

  8. Lovely! They look yummy …. some nice coffee to go with them will make a perfect for a cold December day. Wonderful to hear that you are being very productive with your novel πŸ™‚

  9. Lorna, so nice to read your post. I’ve been neglecting my blog lately as well, and for the same reason! If we are ever to finish anything, we have to focus on it -often to the detriment of other activities. Those of us who follow your blog will surely understand and look forward to the completion of your novel.

    • Thanks Kathleen, I hope your writing’s going well, too. You’re right, we have to make choices about how to spend time and that unfortunately means neglecting things we enjoy from time to time. I’m looking forward to the completion of your novel as well as my own!

    • Thank you Meg, I was shocked when I saw how long it had been since my last post, the time seems to be flying away at the moment. It’s nice to dream of the longer days and the warming weather, isn’t it? πŸ™‚

  10. Hi Lorna, I’m thrilled to see that they turned out so beautifully for you. I’ve been craving more of these delicious treats myself (but am currently in the throes of packing)

Have a wonderful Christmas and equally great New Years!

  11. These look absolutely delicious, I was just thinking I’d like to try making cinnamon buns the other day. I know what you mean about Christmas. Is it wrong I’m almost looking forward to January more, to get on with projects and have a fresh start? I look forward to hearing more about your book, it’s great knowing creative inspiring people who take the time out to do such things. Also, thanks for being a loyal follower of my blog, your comments have really cheered me throughout the year xx

    • Aw, thank you Kate, it amazes me the projects you tackle, and with such enthusiasm for crafting. Thank you for brightening my days with your creativity, and I don’t think it’s wrong to look forward to January – it’s the perfect time to plan your dreams, in my opiinion. πŸ™‚ xo

  12. Those “not so sticky buns” look oh so yummy. I might even find it in myself to munch down two of them with a nice hot cuppa. I’m also very glad to hear that your novel is going well — that means you’re hitting your stride. Yay!

    • Thank you Lucinda, they do slip down well with a nice hot cuppa, and they’re so small that two would be just the job. The book has had to take a bit of a back seat at the moment with festive goings on but I’m really looking forward to getting back to it, thank you for your encouraging words.

  13. I will attempt this reply again..for some reason it wouldn’t go through the other day. Those sticky buns are gorgeous…just how I’d enjoy them, without all the gooey topping…looks like a great Christmas morning treat to me.
